Practical

Information

In this section, you’ll find practical details for the wedding day, along with helpful information to make planning your trip a little easier, including where to stay and how to get there.

The Day Of

The Abbaye

The Abbaye dates back to the 12th century, and we instantly fell in love with it when we first visited. We hope you’ll feel its charm just as strongly as we did.

The venue is easy to find on Google Maps and will be clearly signposted as you get closer.

All of the wedding celebrations (from the ceremony to the brunch) will take place there.

Parking

There is plenty of parking available at the Abbaye and this will be well indicated upon your arrival on site.

Timing

The ceremony starts at 4PM at the Abbaye but we are asking that you arrive at 3:30 to enjoy some refreshments and enabling us to start the ceremony on time.

Dress Code

The dress code is chic cocktail attire: women are invited to embrace color in the spirit of the South of France; men, a suit.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

We also recommend bringing a light jacket or shawl, as dinner will be held outdoors and, being a hilltop village, Saignon can get a little chilly in the evening.

How to get to Saignon?

International Travel

If you’re flying in from outside France, the most convenient airports are:

  • Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) – approx. 1 hour 15 minutes by car
  • Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) – approx. 2 hours 30 minutes by car

Both airports offer frequent international flights and easy car rental options. Marseille is the closest and usually the simplest choice.

From the airport, we strongly recommend renting a car to reach Saignon and to move around the region comfortably.

By Train

If you are travelling from France, we highly recommend taking the train as getting to Provence is easy.

  • Avignon TGV – the most common arrival station
  • Aix-en-Provence TGV – another good option

Careful because for both stations, there’s the “centre ville” station which is different from TGV. The TGV one is usually more straight forward.

From either station, you can:

  • Rent a car (recommended), or
  • Take a regional train to Cavaillon or Apt, then continue by taxi or car

Travel time from Avignon TGV to Saignon is about 1 hour 20 by car.

By Car

Driving is the easiest and most flexible way to reach Saignon (and the most scenic!)

  • From Avignon: ~1 hour
  • From Marseille: ~1 hour 15 minutes
  • From Nice: ~2 hours 30 minutes

Once you leave the main roads, you’ll wind through vineyards, hills, and stone villages - a true Provençal drive.

The Luberon is best explored by car, and public transportation is limited, particularly in the evenings. We strongly recommend renting a car if possible.

Where to Stay?

Saignon and the surrounding villages offer a wide range of beautiful places to stay, from small boutique hotels to private houses tucked into the countryside. We recommend booking early, as accommodations in the Luberon can fill up quickly, especially in June.

In or Near Saignon

Staying in or just outside Saignon is the most convenient option and allows you to fully enjoy the wedding weekend at a relaxed pace.

  • Saignon
  • Apt (approximately 5–10 minutes by car)

You’ll find charming guesthouses, small hotels, and many lovely vacation rentals in this area.

For the night of the wedding on 11 June, we recommend staying in Saignon or in Apt, or very nearby. This will make getting back after the celebration much easier and more comfortable, especially later in the evening.

For the nights before or after the wedding, you’re of course welcome to stay in any of the surrounding villages and explore the region at your own pace.

Nearby Villages we Love

If you’d like to stay a little farther out and make the most of your time in Provence, these nearby villages are all especially beautiful and well worth considering:

  • Gordes: One of the most iconic villages in Provence, perched above the valley (Plus Beaux Villages de France)
  • Roussillon: Known for its ochre cliffs and warm, earthy colors (Plus Beaux Villages de France)
  • Ménerbes: Elegant and timeless, with sweeping views over vineyards (Plus Beaux Villages de France)
  • Lourmarin: Lively and charming, with cafés, boutiques, and a Renaissance château (Plus Beaux Villages de France)
  • Bonnieux: A beautiful hilltop village with a vibrant atmosphere and countryside views
  • Lacoste: Small, atmospheric, and full of character - you must visit its iconic château!

All of these villages are within 20–40 minutes by car from Saignon.
